About Me
As long as I can remember I have always been a maker of “things”. The ideas and imagination behind
them have never left me. However, over time the old cereal and egg boxes from my childhood have
developed into more refined materials and ideas. These days I seek out old tools, books, toys, curios.
They are my starting point, the seed of an idea.
I discovered the joys of felt making about 10 years ago and have been fascinated by its enormous
versatility ever since.
It still seems like wizardry to me, to watch some raw wool fleece transformed into a piece of fabric
or sculpture as a result of a little elbow grease, soap and water or a barbed needle, magic!!
Initially I began exploring wet felting. Creating bowls, bags, purses- everyday items. I spent more and
more time on each piece, detailing them with needle felting and embroidery.
Wanting to expand on my ideas, I made a small jointed bear entirely from needle felting dry wool
fleece. I was overjoyed with the result and knew I had found something I would continue to explore
and expand on. Over time I developed and refined my process, their shape has evolved into the
more figurative physique you now see within each piece. Creating stories and a life of their own with
each one. Although no two are the same, they have somehow developed a reputation for having the
cutest bottoms! Whilst I have absolutely no idea how this happened, it would seem, that by popular
demand, they are here to stay.
The possibilities are endless for these bears, with each object springs a new story. I consider myself
to be incredibly lucky, living in beautiful West Cornwall making what I daydream into a reality.
